Life According To Jim - Lessons From Jesus' Brother, James

DAY 3 OF 14

Most of us dislike asking for help or needing to rely on anyone else. It’s a pride issue, and it can hurt our relationship with God.

In today’s reading, James tells us that if we need wisdom we must simply ask. He says that if we tell God we need his wisdom, he will give it to us generously. However, James warns us that God is not a genie in a bottle that we ask for wisdom whenever we need it. Instead, we are submitting to his plan and not trying to do it on our own. When we do this, he will give us all the wisdom we need!

James is reminding us that God is sufficient, not just in wisdom, but with our resources. He claims that the poor have been blessed because they are not fooled into thinking they can rely on their own wealth and resources, but on God.

So, ask yourself today as you read how you can surrender. Do you need to stop trying to do this on your own and ask God for help?

About this Plan

Life According To Jim - Lessons From Jesus' Brother, James

No one reads the book of James and thinks, “So what does that have to do with me?” Unlike many of the New Testament letters that were written to one specific church, James is writing instructions to Christians all over. During this 14-day plan, we will be challenged and encouraged by the book of James’ practical and timely message.
