Restoring Our View Of Motherhood

DAY 6 OF 7

Jesus holds all things together. I keep forgetting. I continue to believe that I hold all things together. That it’s my job to keep all the plates spinning, all the schedules coordinated, all the people happy around me.

But if Jesus really is the center of all things and the creator of all that is in heaven and on earth, invisible and visible, then this certainly includes my daily life. My schedule. My plates.

What if I took my agenda to Jesus each morning and asked Him if this is what He has for me and for my family today, this week, this month, this season? God, is it best that my child is in three activities in one season? Should our day look this packed, or do You think I need to move something, drop something, or hold loosely to what I have written in ink?

Dearest moms, we do not need to hold all things together. Let’s allow God to speak into our time and our treasures and our talents. Give them to Him; He can hold them and let you know when one is to be used more than another. Give Him your calendar. Give Him your stress because of your calendar.

A friend recently said to me that her rule is: “You don’t get a schedule until you are five.” She wants her kids to play and be free from the crazy until they are at least in kindergarten. The sports start earlier and earlier. And so do the competition, the anxiety, and the exhausted kids. A friend’s daughter, a sophomore, was playing varsity volleyball in season and traveling every weekend for tournaments in the off-season. She slowly began to burn out and just last week she quit. She was tired of it all.

Moms, if we lay our calendars on the altar and ask God to hold all things, He will guide us and lead us and speak to us. He wants to be King. He doesn’t want exhausted sons and daughters who are tired and bitter. Let’s take every moment before Him and see what He has for us. He is a good Father, and we can trust Him.

Jesus, thank You that You are the creator of all things and it is all for Your glory. You made all things to reflect and reveal Your righteousness and Your glory. Help us to take our calendars to You. We want our calendars to reflect Your glory too. Show us what needs to stay, go, or change. You are King. We are not.

About this Plan

Restoring Our View Of Motherhood

If God has called you to be a mother, then He has also equipped you to be one. But we can easily lose sight of the gift, joy, and spirituality of motherhood. Where is God in the diapers and dishes? In the whining and never-ending needs? In the tiresome tasks and the overwhelming challenges? This seven-day devotional will show you where God is and restore your depleted view of motherhood.
