Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 9

DAY 12 OF 30

536 BC 42,360 exiles return to Israel, 70 years after Nebuchadnezzar’s first invasion and exile of some Jews in 605 BC. The people rejoice and praise God. People gather on the temple site for the feast of Booths and give offerings to God. Over the next year they make progress on the rebuilding. Then the Samaritan enemies hinder the work prompting Daniel to fast and pray. An angel visits him to tell about the end times.

Note Ezra 4:1: The ‘enemies of Judah’, Samaritans, were descendants of intermarriages between Israel’s exiles in Assyria and foreigners whom Assyria transmigrated into Samaria in 669 BC (2 Kings 17:24).
