DAY 7 OF 7

THE PRODIGAL

“There is nothing that moves a loving father's soul quite like his child's cry.”  Joni Eareckson Tada

PRAY:  Father, this story of the prodigal son is so powerful. It shows such unconditional love from the father that it's incredibly heart-rending! As the father tells his wayward son, "you are always with me and everything I have is yours," I know that's just how You feel about me! Thank You that You ran to me, kissed me and embraced me before I ever believed in You, let alone loved You. And now I see that our earthly fathers are only a mere reflection of Your love for us. Thank You for loving me unconditionally, even when I don't deserve it. In Jesus name, Amen.
REFLECT:  This story is one of the best analogies of the love of God that one can find in the Bible. The prodigal son is selfish, arrogant, foolish, and greedy - just like us. And his father is forgiving, loving, affectionate and embracing - just like God. This is very humbling to see that the father is not judgmental, he's not trying to get justice, he doesn't even mention the wrongs done to him. He is just overjoyed to see his son. Oh how beautiful! Now, how can we be that way to other people? If we want to be more Christ-like then we have to learn from our Father and choose to act, think, and speak more like Him. How would you start to do that?
ACT:  Are you a prodigal son or daughter? Are you a prodigal father or mother? If you have children, decide now if you need to ask their forgiveness for any selfish, judgmental, or demanding actions that you may have imposed on them. If you are the child of an unfair, selfish, or judgmental father, then do you need to forgive your father for whatever he's done to you? This is a moment of truth between you and your children or you and your parents. A moment for courage and for trust in God and His love for you. Choose one thing that needs to change and take action right now. First pray and confirm your choice. Then commit to either write a note, make a phone call, or plan a meeting to offer your unconditional love to either your child or your parent. Forgive yourself, if you are a prodigal parent. And forgive your father, if he was or is a prodigal father. This is the moment to change your most intimate relationships. God is with you and in you every step of the way!

Day 6

About this Plan

The Hollywood Prayer Network On Fathers

This is the first time I have used so many verses in my devotional and it’s because there are so many verses in the Bible about FATHERS! This is a crucial issue in our nation and God knows it. Spend this week understanding our Heavenly Father’s view of our earthly fathers, and in the process become better mothers and fathers.
