If God Is Sovereign, Why Should We Pray?

DAY 2 OF 4

Prayer Is a Privilege

Many Christians have a hard time praying because they do not understand that prayer is a privilege. In prayer, we get to come into agreement with the Creator of the Universe concerning our lives. Prayer is not about changing the mind of God; it’s about getting our minds and hearts to agree with Him. So the goal of prayer is not to impose our will on God. We are to pray in a way that agrees with His will and watch as He works through the means that He has ordained to do what He has determined to accomplish.

That is why we are instructed to pray in the name of Jesus. We are praying in agreement with God’s truth, His Word, His character, and His will. There is great assurance in such prayer. The Scriptures tell us that if we ask anything according to God’s will, we will have it. The very One that has all wisdom, all power, and is always present has invited us and has commanded us to come to Him with our requests. He promises to answer our prayers.

So we are not dealing with someone who might not hear us. He hears us. We are not dealing with someone who cannot do anything about our requests. God has all power. We are not dealing with someone who does not care. The Lord has commanded us to come to Him. The sovereignty of God should fuel our prayer life. It is a joy to come into agreement with the Creator of the Universe who cares about us and has His best will in mind for us. The sovereign God has commanded us to come to Him with our petitions and has promised to work through that process.

In prayer, we have the almighty God on our side. The Scriptures promise us that when God is for us, no one or nothing can stand against us. No one on this planet is stronger than our God. No need is too big for the Lord to meet. No request is too difficult for Him to answer. God wants us to come to Him and ask for whatever we need so that He can provide for us according to His glorious riches. When we understand that coming to God in prayer is a privilege, we will get to do it daily with great joy.

Day 1Day 3

About this Plan

If God Is Sovereign, Why Should We Pray?

God is sovereign, all powerful, and all knowing. At the same time, He commanded us to pray. Prayer is the means for us to access God’s provision for our life. Prayer is a privilege for every Christian to experience the wonderful will of God. Prayer is a relationship that sanctifies us to have the same heart as Jesus.
