Worth Waiting For
Scripture shows us that every good thing is worth waiting for. Noah waited over four hundred days to get off the boat. But the rain stopped and Noah and his family were saved. Abraham waited twenty-five years for the son had God promised Him. But Isaac came and God fulfilled His word. Joseph waited decades to see his dream come to pass. But God remembered him and set him over Egypt. The world waited thousands of years for the promised Messiah, but Jesus came right on time.
Right before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave His disciples one final instruction. He said, “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 1:4-5).
The disciples weren’t sure what this would look like or when it would take place, but they knew what God had promised. And God kept His promise. He poured out His Holy Spirit, sending a Comforter to lead the disciples in what they would do next.
Our seasons of waiting are never wasted. They serve a purpose, because we spend time with the Lord differently when we are waiting for Him to do something. We have the opportunity to trust God while we’re waiting for His word to be fulfilled in a way we won’t ever get to trust Him again. We cannot control God’s timing, but we can choose how we wait for His promises to come.
While we might keep popping in front of God, saying, “Is it time now, God? Can I have it now? Can I do it now? Can it be time for this to finally happen?” God gently reassures our hearts, I haven’t forgotten about you. I know what you want, and I also know what’s best. Everything I do for you is compelled by My love. Your waiting isn’t in vain. Let’s spend some time together until the time for this next promise arrives.
Father, we don’t want to be kids who demand, “Now! Give it to me now!” We want to be daughters who are so secure in the love of our Father that we will wait for what He says is best. We love getting to grow in You. In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen.
