DAY 5 OF 5

THE POWER OF GOD

One of the common things that hold us back from living a new life in Christ is the power of stubborn sin – that one sin that just won’t go away, no matter how hard you try to shake it off.

But if you’re in that place right now, condemnation is the very last thing you should be feeling because this isn’t a surprise to God. He’s not sitting there condemning you. His Word even tells us…

“… for there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).”

God knew we couldn’t pay the price of our sin, which is why He sent Jesus to die on our behalf – so that we could be forgiven.

In the same way, God knows that we can’t eradicate our sin on our own. That’s why He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us; to make us holy; to set us free. God’s plan is to give us forgiveness through the death of His Son and a new life through the resurrection of His Son.

And to do that, He’s given us power that we don’t have ourselves.

“I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of glory may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him. So with the eyes of your heart enlightened you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance amongst the saints and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe according to the working of his great power (Ephesians 1:17–21).”

So it’s time to stop praying for more power, because you already have it. Instead it’s time to start praying with power; it’s time to start believing that you have the immeasurable greatness of God’s power within you, because God’s Word says you have; because He put His Spirit in you when you believed in Jesus.

My friend, you are a new creation. Look, everything in your life is new. You have forgiveness, you have new life, you have the power to live the new life. You have the power to overcome your sin, not in your strength, but in the immeasurable greatness of the power of God Himself.

It’s time my friend, to be the new you. It’s time for you to lay hold of this complete makeover.

It’s time!

LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS

  • When you reflect on your life, is there one stubborn sin that just won’t go away, no matter how hard you try to shake it off? What is it? Write it down and say it out loud.
  • Do you believe, deep down, that God does not condemn you for this stubborn sin… or for any other, for that matter? Ask Him to press His forgiveness on your heart and help you to understand the freedom you have in Him.
  • Read Ephesians 1:17–21 again and, as you read, ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten the eyes of your heart to understand the power He has already given you.
  • Pray with me: Lord, I claim the immeasurable greatness of your power in my life, according to your Word. I pray dear Holy Spirit that you would unleash this resurrection power more and more in me and through me, that I would be transformed, day-by-day, back into your image. Amen.
