Jesus - Your Fullness and Fulfiller
"Can You Teach Me How To Do That?"
I’m an avid ultimate frisbee player. I used to participate in local tournaments where I’d be matched up against people who were 100 times better than I. In one of these tournaments, I saw a guy do a throw that looked like it defied the laws of gravity. For the rest of the tournament, I studied everything about his throw - his hand position, the angle of release, the amount of force he used, how he moved his feet, the direction his head was facing - I literally studied everything. After feeling like I got the hang of it, I started trying it at casual pick-up games. On my first attempt, the frisbee went straight to the ground. So did the next one, and the next one. I continued to fail for the next two years, until finally, one day, I did it! The satisfaction rushed through my body as the frisbee glided through the air. Immediately, friends began asking me how to do this throw. Within minutes, I was able to teach people how to replicate the throw.
A thought dawned on me: “How awesome would it have been to have that guy next to me every time I attempted that throw?” It would’ve saved me so much time and so much discouragement!
Sometimes, as Christians, we can find ourselves with similar emotions, asking the same kind of question. We try and try to figure something out in our life and wonder how amazing (and helpful, and EASIER) it would be to have Jesus next to us, every step of the way.
John 1:14 says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Many times you’ll hear that Jesus came to be an example for us, but Jesus also came to be an example OF us. While we may not physically have the person of Jesus right beside us for our time in history, He has already come and delivered what we need to live life to the fullest, physically AND spiritually.
Jesus gives us a promise in John 14.16 - “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”
It was never Jesus’ plan for us to wander aimlessly through life, wishing that we had some sort of direction or instruction. He gives us His Spirit, our Helper and Teacher, and all the wisdom and power of heaven with it.
Reflection:
Do you need more of that in your life? The path to a life of fulfillment lies in trusting Jesus and receiving the Helper. You can ask God to fill you with His Spirit now.
Father, today I come before You humbled and thankful that You come to me. I recognize my inadequacy to live my life in the way that You have called me to. I also recognize Your outstretched hand that You offer to guide and walk alongside me. Thank You for your grace, mercy, love, and hope that You’ve offered me.

About this Plan
The "Pure Jesus" plan is a collection of reflections on Jesus as our freedom and forgiver (justification), our fullness and fulfiller (sanctification) and our friend and family (community on mission). The deeper we experience his transformation, the more our lives will reflect a pure image of our Savior.
