Mark got himself in a cloud of disfavor with Paul the Apostle. Mark had bailed on Paul in Pamphylia (Acts 15) and Paul didn't want to take Mark anywhere after that. But we see in 2 Timothy 4:11 that, after some years had passed, Paul sends for Mark. Whatever happened, we know that Peter took Mark under his wing. Peter wasn't intimidated by guys who had messed up, like Mark, because Peter had messed up as well. Perhaps Paul, seeing how Peter had restored Mark, and reading Mark's letter, is moved in his heart to work with Paul again. Perhaps this letter you're reading is part of the way God renewed Mark's devotion and commitment to the Gospel.
