Everything For Life And Godliness - Trust Fall Series

DAY 5 OF 5

Where your Treasure Is

A certain man received an inheritance from an aunt of his. So, while waiting for the reading of the will he was thinking, “What am I going to get?”

Then, he listened to what his aunt said in her will: “To my beloved nephew, I bequeath my family Bible and all that it contains, along with the residue of my estate, after my funeral expenses and all the just and lawful debts are paid.”

When everything had been settled, the nephew got a couple hundred dollars and the family Bible. He was really disappointed. He said to himself, “Man, I thought I was going to get more than that.”

In a short time, he had spent the two hundred dollars and closed up the Bible. He put the Bible in a trunk in the attic and lived a good portion of the rest of his life in poverty.

Finally, he had become an old man himself, and it was time for him to move in with another family member. So he went up into the attic and opened up the trunk and saw that Bible. He pulled it out and thought, “Oh, yeah. I remember getting this as an inheritance.”

He opened up the Bible for the first time and began to turn through it, only to find that his aunt had put cash all throughout the Scriptures in different passages of the Bible. All told, there was $5,000 in cash stashed inside that Bible.

Now, if you open your Bible, most likely there won’t be cash in its pages. But there will be treasure. A treasure that will be greater than any amount of money you could ever imagine.

Think about the symbolism this aunt was trying to show her nephew. He would be provided for as he walked through the Scriptures.

As we open up our Bibles, we won’t find any cash there, but we will find the greatest treasure of all – we will find Jesus. How do we walk in God’s ways? Through Jesus. Him through us. That’s realizing the treasure of who He is.

Walk with Him. Love Him. Realize you have everything you need, and that you are spiritually equal with the apostles of old and of today. Stand on His promises. Give Him your time and attention.

Then, as you mature in that relationship, you’ll quit looking down at people and you’ll begin to look up to heaven on behalf of them. As you trust in this relationship, in His Words and His promises, you will then live a life that is pleasing to Him.

Everything For Life And Godliness - Trust Fall Series

In the Trust Fall series, Pastor Gregg Matte takes us on a passage-by-passage journey through the Second Epistle of the Apostle Peter. The purpose of this series is to show us that we can fall back with confidence into our God’s safe arms. In this second reading plan of the series we learn that God has already given us all that we need for life and godliness through Christ. 2 Peter 1:3-4.
