The #1 Key for Making Right DecisonsSample
Day 5 - Don’t Let Circumstances Decide
It can be very tempting to base your decisions on whatever circumstances you’re facing, instead of looking to God. Don’t do it! Circumstances look different to God than they do to you. And they are always subject to change.
Second Corinthians 4:18 says, “Do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary.”
One of the devil’s favorite lies is, “It’s always going to be this way—this situation is permanent.” But circumstances change all the time! Today is not a life sentence. Your circumstances are most likely temporary, and you don’t want to make a decision based on something that’s constantly changing.
God never changes, so He is the surest foundation for decision-making. You can go to His Word and receive answers and directions because His Word doesn’t change. It’s much better to base your decisions on Someone who is solid and never changes than on something that can look or be different by tomorrow.
Don’t let temporary circumstances make decisions for your permanent future. Don’t let the things going on around you be your guide. Instead, determine in your heart and mind that you’ll act (or react) only when the Spirit of God tells you to.
Let’s say, for example, you’re not earning enough at your current job, and you don’t like some of your fellow employees. Those are your circumstances, and because of them, you’d like to just get out of there! Then a new job offer comes along with better pay and a great working environment. What should you do?
The answer is, you should seek God, not let the circumstances decide for you. God wants the best for you, and you can trust Him. Seek Him and He’ll lead you.
And don’t forget, the circumstances at your current job are temporary. At any time you could get a pay increase, or those co-workers could leave. No matter how great the new job looks, there are people there too, and you might not like all of them either. The pay might be higher, but you might be miserable there for any number of reasons. Always seek God first because circumstances change - don’t give them the final say in guiding you.
