 What I learnt while baking bread! 

 Of late I am trying my hand at baking bread. And you don’t have to be an expert to know the importance of yeast in baking! Yeast is the driving force behind fermentation that allows a dense mass of dough to become a well-risen loaf of bread.

In the book of Exodus 25-40, God gave Moses and the Israelites the details of every component of the Tabernacle and He gave instructions to Moses saying that the ‘Bread of the Presence’ or the ‘showbread on the Table’ should be unleavened. In other words, there was nothing in it to puff it up.

Now that was something that got me thinking!

I wondered without the leavening agents how will this bread rise?

Then I came to the realisation that the showbread was laid on a wooden table covered with pure gold. (Ex 25:23-30). And gold is one of the best conductors of heat. When the glory of God would fill the tabernacle, the unleavened bread would attract tremendous heat and rise for its master’s glory!

I think the showbread is symbolic of us.

We might not have the quality and standard as expected by the world to rise, but when we choose to dwell in His presence day and night, His glory will automatically cause us to rise.

Remember this “Showbread” also was called “bread of the presence” because it was to be ALWAYS in the Lord’s presence. (Exodus 25:30) 

In the New Testament we read, when the world saw the boldness of Peter and John who were unschooled and ordinary men, they recognized that they had been with Jesus (Acts 4:13)

The key is to remain in His Presence all times!

That’s where your fears will leave. That’s where your faith will be lifted. That’s where you will know your true identity. That’s where you will be equipped with His matchless grace, so that you may stand tall among the world around you. Let’s run to Him!
