The Old Testament On PurposeSample
My wife and I love candles.
Every year, especially around the winter season, our house is filled with them. One for the bedroom, one for the kitchen, and one for the living room.
A candle is an amazing little thing. It possesses enough scent to change the mood of an entire room.
Right out of the box or off the shelf, it is already everything it needs to be in order to accomplish its unique purpose. But there’s another step required before its scent can be released.
The wick has to burn.
You could have the most beautifully scented candle sitting right in the middle of the room but not smell it. Without the flame to draw the scent out, the candle can’t fulfill the purpose for which it was created.
You are the candle.
You are already everything you need to be in order to accomplish the unique purpose God has for you to do. It’s inside you. God coded it onto your very DNA.
But in order for that purpose to be released, in order for the scent of your contribution to escape and be free to fill the world, it has to be drawn out.
It is God’s pleasure to draw out our purpose.
He accomplishes this through His Word, the Bible, and through His people, the church.
Scripture helps us see where God wants to take us and the people God puts in our lives confirm the direction we are sensing.
These are the flames to our candle. These are the avenues to unlocking all that we were meant to be.
