Wow, God! (An Advent Journey)

DAY 14 OF 25

WOW, GOD. YOU TAKE CARE OF MY NEEDS. ALL MY NEEDS.

Experience

I know that God is suppose to “save my soul.” That’s what God does. But... can I trust Jesus to take care of me, my daily life, even my day job? The Bible has a story that talks about this. It’s about a woman caught with someone else’s man. The story makes it sound like this was a set-up. People are already on the scene, and everyone has a weapon - a stone. People are ready to kill this lady! They also are waiting to see what Jesus will do about it all.

Jesus, though... He just draws in the sand on the ground without saying a word. Across from Jesus is the lady, people staring because her clothes tell an obvious story. When Jesus kneels down, the crowd shifts as everyone gathers around to see what He wrote. All eyes redirected to him. I bet she was glad to have that time to compose herself. And Jesus? He still hasn’t said a word. Not one comment to anyone. The story ends with everyone dropping their stones and leaving. Jesus tells the lady to go and sin no more. Before He even addressed her sin, He took care of her immediate need. Jesus didn’t only save the lady’s soul. He didn’t just save her life. He also let her catch her breath.

Wow, God. You take care of my needs. ALL my needs.

Respond

We all have needs. There are huge things in our life we need help with, like forgiveness. We also have daily needs, like organizing our day. We also have many, immediate needs. Sometimes we just need a minute to catch our breath, or a moment to remember we are loved. God wants to take care of your needs. The birth of Jesus was God’s big response to a world in need. Don’t be afraid to show God your needs. All your needs. God can take care of them, whatever they may be. John 8:2-11 tells a story of just that: someone with needs and Jesus taking care of all them. Read today’s passage and watch how Jesus responds.

Pray

God I need you to take care of some things. Will you please handle this need? Amen.
