What If You Were The Plan?

DAY 20 OF 21

One life lived out of faith can have immeasurable impact. It’s not the strongest, the fiercest or the one with the most resources who succeeds in God’s economy. It’s not even the successful or the ones who survive that are the most notable. How do we become a member of that faith society? The answer can be summed up in the words penned in the front pages of Bob Pierce’s Bible.

Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God.”

Pierce wrote these words after visiting some children on a Korean island who were suffering. This prayer is what ultimately led to the founding of Samaritan’s Purse the year I was born. In the beginning, Bob’s vision was to work alongside other evangelical mission agencies to provide aid in case of emergency or crisis. After World War II, while in China, Pierce discovered a group of women who were living with lepers and orphans, caring for them and sharing the love of Jesus. Seeing faith lived out through the eyes of these selfless women shaped his desire to serve the poor and suffering through the world.

If Hebrews 11 gives us anything, it’s a huge “Go get’em!” as if to say,

“YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS, PEOPLE!”

One life, choosing to take in all these examples, meditate on the Scripture, listening for how God wants to demonstrate His presence through them is the makings of faith in action. Oh yeah! That person will participate in making the Gospel known through whatever means the Lord directs.

That is a beautiful reality: I am the plan. You are the plan.

God knows you cannot do a thousand things for His glory. But there may very well be a passion that grows, a holy discontent that these last days have aroused and continues to fester within as God directs you toward where He wants your focus.

As you pray, consider praying Bob Pierce’s prayer,

Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God.”

Plead for God to help you choose Him over all else. Trust Him to guide you in the direction He wants you to follow. And be ever so bold enough to begin asking God to use you to help bring relief to a hurting world.
