Overwhelmed by My Blessings (Part 12)

DAY 5 OF 5

My husband is a curse breaker.

Coming from generations of apathetic, uninvolved fathering he chose an alternative. He chose a pioneer path for himself—to learn how to father his own children as he learned directly from God.

And he did.

As our children got old enough to listen, he would have heart-felt discussions with them about living for Jesus and the Godly heritage we can leave behind as we daily choose Him. It was so important to him to change the direction of the legacy left for him that his discussions would often be lengthy and passionate. This led to our children to saying, “Oh, Dad. Not the “h” word, again!” Every one of our seven children can tell you stories of listening to their dad talk about the importance of living life with the end in mind—living with an eternal perspective—and the impact this choice and lifestyle can have.

Even though his discussions on heritage became an inside family joke, his passion and example of living out his faith now in order to leave a Godly legacy for generations got through to our kids. We have sons and daughters with wives and husbands who have fervently taken hold of this vision. It shows in the choices they make and it shows in the lives of their children.

Maybe this isn’t your current story. Maybe your husband isn’t on this track. Maybe you are a single mom. But there is nothing stopping you from choosing to live this for yourself and praying it for your children. It’s not about perfection. It’s about practicing with intention and attention toward a right direction. It’s found in the constancy and consistency of coming before your loving Father and asking for direction and guidance in parenting your overwhelming blessings. It’s found in abiding, aligning, and remaining in Him. It’s found in sharing with your children what He has done in your heart and that you hope they will choose Him for themselves.

It’s a choice. Leaving a living legacy, a heritage of Jesus-following children, begins with your example.

Will you accept the challenge and put in the effort? It’s worth it and He is with you. He is faithful—I promise!

Oh Father. I have so many fears of the future for my kids. Am I doing it wrong? Am I doing anything right? You know my heart, and You love me anyway. Thank You for that amazing fact. Please hold me tightly as I trip and stumble through my parenting, and remind me that I am the only one who can ever put distance between us. I pray that my example, more than my words, will show Your abundant love to my children and that their desire will be for You. I entrust them to You—for all my hope for each of my children is found only in You!
