The Call

DAY 2 OF 7

Called to Bear Fruit

As God’s children, we are called to bear fruit—most importantly, the fruit of love. Loving God and loving people are His greatest commands to us. When we love, we reveal God’s nature in us, which in turn, glorifies Him in the world.

Like we looked at on day one, the origin of all our good fruit comes from our connection to the Vine. And the quality of our fruit will match the quality of our daily, connected dependency to the Holy Spirit. That’s why, more than anything else, we must understand that we are first and only called to Christ Jesus—to walk with Him and to know Him intimately.

I’ve been scrutinizing my life and finding evidence where my love for people is waning—where selfishness stands out more than selflessness and criticism chokes out my compassion.

How about you? Does your life resemble Christ more than the bad fruit of this world? You can’t give what you don’t have. If you are spiritually depleted, it’s likely you’ve disconnected from depending on the Vine. Filling time with your own agenda will leave you empty and dried up.  We’ve all been there and done that—too many times. But it’s time to wise up and fill up on the Vine. It’s time to live worthy of the calling we have received.

You can be a reflection of Jesus every day. Use every moment to draw a closer connection to the Father by simply talking to Him. Listen for the specific opportunities He will show you to walk in His ways.

Prayer: Father, what I truly want is You. I want to know You more than I do now. I want to follow You with complete devotion. May my life bring glory to Your name and draw many to Your Son, Jesus Christ.
