DAY 10 OF 14

Yes and Amen - Chris McClarney

As we read through the stories of the Bible, we see over and over again that every time God made a promise, He kept it. As a kid, one of my favorite stories about God’s faithfulness was the story of Noah. If you every went to Sunday School, you remember the story. God sends a flood to cover the earth, but He spares Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal. When it’s all over, they reach land, and step out of the boat, God puts a rainbow in the sky as a symbol of His promise that He will never again flood the earth. Every time I see a rainbow, I’m transported back to Sunday School and thinking about the faithfulness of God.

As a child it felt easy to believe that and accept it; God keeps all His promises. That’s it. But as an adult, I struggle sometimes to trust that. If I’m really honest, sometimes it’s my need for control. I want to know exactly how He will fulfill the promise and when. But God’s timing is always perfect and He knows what I need even more than I do! If I can surrender to Him and lay down my need for control, He will work in my life beyond what I can imagine. And truth is, God doesn’t need to do it my way. His ways are much better than my own! I’m on a constant journey of teaching my heart how to rest in God and His promises, teaching my mind to trust Him, and reminding myself to speak words of faith and hope.

Today, take a moment to speak to your heart. Remind your heart of the last time God was faithful and that He will do it again. Guard the words coming out of your mouth today. Are they statements of faith and encouragement? Speak out in faith today, confident that all His promises are, “Yes and Amen!”
