DAY 3 OF 3

DAY THREE: Live in Response to What You've Been Given

As New Testament believers, we do not obey the law of God because someone says we must. We meet and even exceed the law’s requirements because of the love of God that was implanted in our hearts when we received Jesus as Savior.

Look at it this way. No Christian husband loves his wife because a written law says he should. He loves his wife because his heart is filled with love for her. He’s not going to avoid adultery because there is a written law that says he should. He wouldn’t think of coveting someone else’s wife, because he loves his wife.

Grace is not the absence of ethics or boundaries or principles of conduct to guide our steps. Grace is freeing us from believing that any of these save us. Grace is understanding that only Jesus could live up to God’s law and that through faith in Him, the righteous demands of a holy God are fulfilled. But grace is not the abolition of all standards, all truths that guide conduct, or all boundaries that define and distinguish between the holy and the profane.

Jesus has set us free to live in whatever way pleases God. This way of living is our grateful response to what we have received.
