Praying God's PromisesSample
Strength to the Weak
I know what it’s like when human strength fails. When we were first married, my husband, Paul, and I took off on our ten-speed bicycles in 110-degree Texas heat to ride to a nearby town for lunch.
The closer I got to the town, the slower I pedaled. My husband rode up the next hill and missed that my cycling speed had declined to the point that I could barely keep my bike balanced. I eyed a shady spot on the side of the road and wondered, What if I were to lie down and just go to sleep?
I knew this was a bad idea, but in the heat, I was no longer able to move forward.
“Dear Lord, help me,” I prayed as I dropped my bike and staggered toward the shade.
Just then Paul returned. He was alarmed when he saw me. “What are you doing?”
My words were sluggish. “I’m going to take a nap.”
Paul’s voice commanded, “Get back on your bike, and I’ll push you.”
So with one hand on the back of my bike seat, my strong young husband pedaled his bike up and down the Texas hills while pushing my bike beside his.
Finally, we made it to the cool of the restaurant, where we gulped gallons of iced tea. A couple hours later, with the temperature a dozen degrees lower, I was able to ride home under my own power.
What my husband did for me the day I lost my strength is the same thing that God will do for you when you lose your strength. Perhaps he’ll power you down the paths you need to take or refresh you with his living water. All I know is that when you ask him for strength, he’ll show up strong on your behalf.
Your Word says: “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV).
I agree: Your grace is sufficient for me, Lord. Your strength is made perfect in my weakness because Christ’s power rests on me.
