In Pursuit Of Excellence

DAY 3 OF 7

Called to Serve

Success can often destruct self. In his book Good to Great, Jim Collins identifies two key qualities a Level 5 leader should have—humility and resoluteness. We see these qualities in none other than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We never find Jesus being carried away by the success of his miracles and healings, but often find Him moving away to a solitary place to spend time with His Father. How do you handle success?

As we become successful in our work, pride or fear of failure can often come into our lives slowly if we forget our calling. Jesus shows a clear distinction in Mt 23:11-12, where he reminds The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Today’s verse reminds us of our calling. It is to serve!

Excellence brings in a profound meaning if we always have an attitude of ‘serving’. Once we realize our calling, we do everything with our hearts unto the Lord with an attitude of serving the needs of our customers, colleagues, stakeholders, etc.

We often notice the staff manning the customer counters in banks and government offices coming late to work, with customers already queuing up. We find patients waiting for hours for the doctors to attend to them. We do not even think that excellence means being on time and being sensitive to the needs of people and realizing the fact that when we serve people in need, we are actually serving our Lord!

Lord, teach me not to separate You from any part of my life. Let me be transparent both as a leader and as a follower. Remind me that faith is not just for Sundays but for every day and that without faith, it is impossible to please You. Remind me that You have called me to serve. Amen

About this Plan

In Pursuit Of Excellence

Drawing from the Biblical premise of Paul addressing the Colossian church, which primarily consisted of slaves, the author speaks about the various issues related to pursuing excellence and ushers in a clarified understanding of the fact that faith is not merely for Sundays, but for every day, every place. He ends with a climaxing, soul-searching question - Are you willing to surrender your will to His today ?
