DAY 28 OF 33

Make Your Bed

Julio Gomez

Ready:

“One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” Luke 18:1

Set:

Admiral William McRaven, who had a 36-year career as a Navy SEAL, gave a speech at the 2014 University of Texas commencement. He said, “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.”

Navy SEALS are trained in desert and jungle conditions, can handle explosives, and jump from airplanes. They’re considered one of the world's best fighting forces. And can you believe he is talking about making a bed?

It’s a simple task, but every morning as a Navy SEAL he was required to make his bed to perfection! McRaven said, “It seemed a little ridiculous at the time, because we were aspiring to be real warriors, Seals on battle, but the wisdom of this simple act has been proven to me many times over.”

The principle is, if you can't do the little things right, you will never do the big things right! Jesus reminds us in Luke 18:1, “If you want to change the world, start off by praying.” Prayer is a simple task that can have a big impact. It should be the first thing we do when we get out of bed – even before we make our bed! It will ground us and lay a strong foundation for the day.

Now when you are reminded to make your bed, let it be a reminder to prayer first. You have the potential to change the world.

Go:

1. As a competitor, how do you include God first in your day?

2. Why is prayer a simple task that can have big impact? What distracts you from praying?

3. How can prayer change your day? Your team? Your school? Your life?

Overtime:

1 Thessalonians 5:17

God, I desire to start my day by praying consistently. I want to give You my first words. I know prayer can change the world. Help me to become a prayer warrior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
