Turn My Eyes - a 7-Day Devotional by BonraySample
Day 1- You Got Me
You’ve signed your name across my heart
And now you have every part
Through thick and thin, New York to Berlin
You’ve been my closest friend
I’ll let the whole world know
You got me I got you
You got me I got you
Like the moon and the stars are never apart
“You Got Me” is a song about the friendship we can have with God.
Growing up, I always knew God loved me but I constantly felt like His love would change based on what I did. I would try my best to live the way He wanted me to. When I had a good day, I thought God and I were close. When I failed, I thought He was angry and distant. When I finally learned the true love God has for me, I was blown away.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8 (NKJV)
While we were at our worst, Jesus still chose to die for us. Even when we fail, He isn’t distant and angry.
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 8:38-39 (NLT)
Like a best friend, He is right by our side no matter what happens. He is always filled with the same love and forgiveness as the day He gave His life for us. Nothing we can do and nothing in all the Earth can change His love for us! And it doesn’t stop there…
“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you...” - John 15:15-16. (ESV)
Jesus chose us and is calling us into a friendship with Him. Not a servant relationship where we simply follow rules and fulfill duties, but a friendship where we get to know God as we live for Him.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for your amazing love for me! Thank you for always being by my side and never giving up on me. I want to know you more, walk in friendship with you, and let you shape my heart to be more like you.
Amen
