DAY 7 OF 11

Something To Shout About

Devotional for the song "Let It Be Known"

Just play along, OK? Say the word "shout." Say it one more time. The main sound you hear when speaking that word is those last three letters, or the word "out." Try it once more. See what I mean? It's almost like there's something inside you've got to get outside, and the best way to do that is to shout! By definition, it's a forceful getting it out.

There are times in our lives when God does something that just doesn't make sense. He acts in our lives in a way that defies explanation. His mercy sweeps in and upsets the cart of our expectations, and we end up standing there with our jaws open, simply amazed at His provision or His healing or His comfort. This might be a check in the mail to cover this month's rent, or it might be a solid eight hours of sleep after weeks of restless nights.

In either case, we experience in a very tangible way the reign of God in our lives. He does something that stirs the inside of us, and our response is to want to get it out, to tell somebody of the mighty acts of God, to shout it out and lift high the name of Jesus. It's not always so much what happens as the fact that it did happen, and we witnessed it. And to keep that inside, well, that would be simply unbearable. We've got to shout it out.

Now maybe you're quick to point out, "Look, I'm just not a shouter." OK, not everyone verbally declares so the entire block can hear. Some people shout out God's goodness with a fist pump or by giving a friend a bear hug or maybe whispering that powerful little word – "yes!"

Just as there are a million way to say, "I love you", there are a million ways to give a shout out that, "Our God saves!" If you prefer to get loud, go for the volume. If you'd rather be more soft-spoken in your approach, go for that too. But just go for it, don't keep it bottled up inside of you because that's not where it's supposed to be. God gifted you with something, and it's your responsibility to pass it along, to keep the chain of praise going, to shout it out so the world can know that our God reigns.
