Job 33:1-11
Job 33:1-11 The Message (MSG)
“So please, Job, hear me out, honor me by listening to me. What I’m about to say has been carefully thought out. I have no ulterior motives in this; I’m speaking honestly from my heart. The Spirit of God made me what I am, the breath of God Almighty gave me life! “And if you think you can prove me wrong, do it. Lay out your arguments. Stand up for yourself! Look, I’m human—no better than you; we’re both made of the same kind of mud. So let’s work this through together; don’t let my aggressiveness overwhelm you. “Here’s what you said. I heard you say it with my own ears. You said, ‘I’m pure—I’ve done nothing wrong. Believe me, I’m clean—my conscience is clear. But God keeps picking on me; he treats me like I’m his enemy. He’s thrown me in jail; he keeps me under constant surveillance.’
Job 33:1-11 King James Version (KJV)
Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, And hearken to all my words. Behold, now I have opened my mouth, My tongue hath spoken in my mouth. My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: And my lips shall utter knowledge clearly. The Spirit of God hath made me, And the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. If thou canst answer me, Set thy words in order before me, stand up. Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay. Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, Neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee. Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, And I have heard the voice of thy words, saying, I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me. Behold, he findeth occasions against me, He counteth me for his enemy, He putteth my feet in the stocks, He marketh all my paths.
Job 33:1-11 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
“However now, Job, please hear my speech, And listen to all my words. Behold now, I open my mouth, My tongue in my mouth speaks. My words are from the uprightness of my heart, And my lips speak knowledge sincerely. The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Refute me if you can; Array yourselves before me, take your stand. Behold, I belong to God like you; I too have been formed out of the clay. Behold, no fear of me should terrify you, Nor should my pressure weigh heavily on you. “Surely you have spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the sound of your words: ‘I am pure, without transgression; I am innocent and there is no guilt in me. Behold, He invents pretexts against me; He counts me as His enemy. He puts my feet in the stocks; He watches all my paths.’
Job 33:1-11 New Century Version (NCV)
“Now, Job, listen to my words. Pay attention to everything I say. I open my mouth and am ready to speak. My words come from an honest heart, and I am sincere in saying what I know. The Spirit of God created me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life. Answer me if you can; get yourself ready and stand before me. I am just like you before God; I too am made out of clay. Don’t be afraid of me; I will not be hard on you. “But I heard what you have said; I heard every word. You said, ‘I am pure and without sin; I am innocent and free from guilt. But God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy. He locks my feet in chains and closely watches everywhere I go.’
Job 33:1-11 American Standard Version (ASV)
Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear my speech, And hearken to all my words. Behold now, I have opened my mouth; My tongue hath spoken in my mouth. My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart; And that which my lips know they shall speak sincerely. The Spirit of God hath made me, And the breath of the Almighty giveth me life. If thou canst, answer thou me; Set thy words in order before me, stand forth. Behold, I am toward God even as thou art: I also am formed out of the clay. Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, Neither shall my pressure be heavy upon thee. Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the voice of thy words, saying, I am clean, without transgression; I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me: Behold, he findeth occasions against me, He counteth me for his enemy; He putteth my feet in the stocks, He marketh all my paths.
Job 33:1-11 New International Version (NIV)
“But now, Job, listen to my words; pay attention to everything I say. I am about to open my mouth; my words are on the tip of my tongue. My words come from an upright heart; my lips sincerely speak what I know. The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Answer me then, if you can; stand up and argue your case before me. I am the same as you in God’s sight; I too am a piece of clay. No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy on you. “But you have said in my hearing— I heard the very words— ‘I am pure, I have done no wrong; I am clean and free from sin. Yet God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy. He fastens my feet in shackles; he keeps close watch on all my paths.’
Job 33:1-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
“But please, Job, hear my speech, And listen to all my words. Now, I open my mouth; My tongue speaks in my mouth. My words come from my upright heart; My lips utter pure knowledge. The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life. If you can answer me, Set your words in order before me; Take your stand. Truly I am as your spokesman before God; I also have been formed out of clay. Surely no fear of me will terrify you, Nor will my hand be heavy on you. “Surely you have spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the sound of your words, saying, ‘I am pure, without transgression; I am innocent, and there is no iniquity in me. Yet He finds occasions against me, He counts me as His enemy; He puts my feet in the stocks, He watches all my paths.’
Job 33:1-11 Amplified Bible (AMP)
“However, Job, please listen to my words, And pay attention to everything I say. “Behold, I have opened my mouth [to begin my speech]; My tongue in my mouth is going to speak. “My words will express the uprightness of my heart, And my lips will speak what they know with utter sincerity. “The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life [which inspires me]. “Answer me, if you can; Set yourselves before me, take your stand. “Behold, I belong to God like you; I too was formed out of the clay. “Behold, I will not make you afraid or terrified of me [for I am only mortal and not God], Nor should any pressure from me weigh heavily upon you. ¶“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the sound of your words, saying: ‘I am pure, without transgression; I am innocent and there is no guilt in me. ‘Behold, God finds pretexts against me; He counts me as His enemy. ‘He puts my feet in the stocks [to hinder and humiliate me]; He [suspiciously] watches all my paths,’ [you say].
Job 33:1-11 New Living Translation (NLT)
“Listen to my words, Job; pay attention to what I have to say. Now that I have begun to speak, let me continue. I speak with all sincerity; I speak the truth. For the Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Answer me, if you can; make your case and take your stand. Look, you and I both belong to God. I, too, was formed from clay. So you don’t need to be afraid of me. I won’t come down hard on you. “You have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard your very words. You said, ‘I am pure; I am without sin; I am innocent; I have no guilt. God is picking a quarrel with me, and he considers me his enemy. He puts my feet in the stocks and watches my every move.’
Job 33:1-11 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
“But now, hear my speech, O Job, and listen to all my words. Behold, I open my mouth; the tongue in my mouth speaks. My words declare the uprightness of my heart, and what my lips know they speak sincerely. The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Answer me, if you can; set your words in order before me; take your stand. Behold, I am toward God as you are; I too was pinched off from a piece of clay. Behold, no fear of me need terrify you; my pressure will not be heavy upon you. “Surely you have spoken in my ears, and I have heard the sound of your words. You say, ‘I am pure, without transgression; I am clean, and there is no iniquity in me. Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me as his enemy, he puts my feet in the stocks and watches all my paths.’
