Psalms 42

42
BOOK TWO: Psalms 42—72
Yearning for God in the Midst of Distresses
To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation of the sons of Korah.
1As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God.
2#Ps. 63:1; 84:2; 143:6; (Jer. 10:10)My soul thirsts for God, for the #Rom. 9:26; 1 Thess. 1:9living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
3#Ps. 80:5; 102:9My tears have been my food day and night,
While they continually say to me,
#Ps. 79:10; 115:2; Joel 2:17; Mic. 7:10“Where is your God?”
4When I remember these things,
#1 Sam. 1:15; Job 30:16I pour out my soul within me.
For I used to go with the multitude;
#Ps. 55:14; 122:1; Is. 30:29I went with them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise,
With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.
5#Ps. 42:11; 43:5Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
#Ps. 71:14; Lam. 3:24Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance.
6O my God, my soul is cast down within me;
Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan,
And from the heights of Hermon,
From the Hill Mizar.
7Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
#Ps. 69:1, 2; 88:7; Jon. 2:3All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
8The Lord will #Deut. 28:8command His lovingkindness in the daytime,
And #Job 35:10; Ps. 149:5in the night His song shall be with me—
A prayer to the God of my life.
9I will say to God my Rock,
#Ps. 38:6“Why have You forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”
10As with a breaking of my bones,
My enemies reproach me,
#Ps. 42:3; Joel 2:17; Mic. 7:10While they say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
11#Ps. 43:5Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.
