Lift Off

Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read Romans 12:3–8 again.

  • What specific gifts do you see listed in this passage?
  • What does it teach us about the attitude we should have when using our gifts?
  • Are there any gifts you don't currently have but find interesting? If so, what are they?

A: Application

  • Who's someone you compare your gifts to?
  • What does this passage invite you to do differently as it relates to working with others?
  • How might your humility change if you took this passage seriously?

P: Prayer

Spend time in prayer about how you can use your gifts as part of a bigger group. Ask God to show you some places you could serve and give you the humility to fill the role that fits you best. Thank God that you don't have to use your gifts alone.
