12 Leadership Ideas To Do With Your Kids

DAY 1 OF 12

Walk Through a Graveyard

At sunrise or sunset one day, drive out to a local graveyard. If you can, find an old one where the gravestones have descriptions on them of the people who are buried there. Walk through the property, reading the epitaphs of each one you pass.

Afterward, sit down and discuss what you saw. Think about the lives of those who are described on those gravestones. Then, talk about the future. What kind of person does your young person want to be as an adult? What do they want to accomplish before they die? What will be their values? Their purpose? Their methods? What are their motives?

Take a few minutes and journal these thoughts on paper. Consider Jesus’s words at the end of His time on earth: “Father, I have glorified you on earth, having accomplished the purpose you have given me to do,” (John 17:4). A few chapters later, Jesus said, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you,” (John 20:21). We have been given a mission to live for in the same way Jesus was.

Together, pray this prayer with King David: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way,” (Psalm 139:23-24).
