The Ten Commandments To Financial HealingSýnishorn
Commandment #4 - Be Prepared For What Tomorrow Brings
On August 29, 2005, who knew an evacuation order would be the last time I would see New Orleans as I knew it. A “hurricane trip” as I referred to it happened frequently, so why would this time be anything different? My “hurricane trips” would usually turn out to be short vacations and time off from work, but this time I would never be able to return back to life as I knew it. Hurricane Katrina destroyed my home, my personal belongings and left me homeless. More importantly, I was now faced with many financial uncertainties.
Fortunately, after graduating from college and starting my first job, I started saving for the unexpected. Not realizing the unexpected would arrive so soon, but it did. The Bible warns us to plan, refer to Proverbs 21:5, this also applies to all areas of our lives. Therefore, no matter what, commit to preparing yourself financially for the unexpected.
USE WISDOM
What we have to understand is that in this life some rain must fall, therefore we have to use wisdom as it relates to our finances. Wisdom is one of the key foundations to successfully obtaining a financial healing. Read James 1:5. It tells us we can ask God for wisdom and He will generously provide it to us. We must also be wise with every dollar that we encounter. This requires us to be good stewards over our finances and set aside a portion of each dollar that comes into our possession, read 1 Corinthians 16:2.
PREPARE YOURSELF
Refer to Matthew 25:6-10, it warns us about the consequences of being unprepared. We witness ten women who set out on the journey, but only half were able to conquer it. What about you? Would an unexpected expense set you back or would you be able to continue on your financial journey?
So as you set on your financial journey, remember to be prepared financially for the unexpected. It is not a matter of what if, but when rain will fall. Simply put, we have to be prepared for whatever tomorrow brings.
