What If You Could? - Find Faith In The Face Of FearSýnishorn
I know a woman who claims to be a God-fearing, churchgoing person. But when I ask her, “How are things going with you?” she tells me all the things that aren’t going right and how she needs prayer to get out of the latest mess in her life. When I ask her what she’s believing God will do, she tells me, “I just pray for God to have mercy on me and hope He finds me worthy.” Clearly, she is not fully aware of the kind of relationship God wants to have with her. If she were, she would know He has a better opinion of her than she has of herself. She obviously doesn’t understand the lack of power in that kind of “faith.” She believes in God the way children believe in Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy. Just make a wish, say a prayer, and keep hoping in vain it will come true.
Folks like that believe that, “If I just hold on, God will save me from this hell that is my life.” But God can’t do what you won’t allow Him to do. If you put up a wall, don’t be surprised when nothing gets through. When Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge, they essentially told God, “We can figure out this life without you.” They realized, too late, that they couldn’t. We have a tendency to do the same thing. We plead with God to save us when all we have to do is give ourselves back into God’s hands and let Him work good in our lives.
If you put your faith in a fear-based relationship with God, you have turned away from all that He has made you to do. You have turned off the personal communication He wants to have with you, and you have cast yourself adrift in a very scary storm. Instead of continuing to fear the circumstances, get into relationship with God. Seek His best for the situation. Ask Him to stop the storm. Then you have to do your part to fix the problem. Call it dead or resolved, fixed or mended, and stand on that as fact. Pray for God to bring about peace and understanding, to get things back on track. You may be required to put in some hard work, or you might see a supernatural turnaround. It may require a miracle from heaven, but God will answer you, and He will work everything out for your good.
