Thrive. A 14-Day Devotional for Singles

DAY 11 OF 14

Timing

One of the most destructive lies that single Christians buy into is the lie that we’re too old: too old to marry, too old to date, and too old to thrive. Whether you’re 30 or 80, you’ve probably been tempted to believe that time is flying by and no one can stop it. The moment you buy into this lie is the moment you become hopeless. Here’s what I do know: when it comes to God and His plans for us, the truth is that as long as we’re still breathing, we’re not too old. Think about it: Abraham was 100 when he had his first son. Sarah was 90. Moses was 80 when he started down the road of God’s call on his life. Joshua was 90 when he finally got ready to enter the promised land. And Anna was well past retirement age when she finally held the long-awaited Messiah. When it comes to God’s plans for your life, if you’re not dead God’s not done with you yet! Anything can happen today. You’re not too old for God and His ways. You’re not too old for God to give you the breakthrough you’ve been longing for. God’s timing is perfect. He’s never too late. He’s always on time. Refuse to give in to the temptation to fret. God can do anything anytime He wants to. Trust His timing and thrive.

Questions:

Have you ever been tempted to feel like you’re too old to marry? Or too old for God to use you again? What would you do for the Lord if you didn’t worry about your age?
