A Narrow Road—but What a View!
Maybe over the course of the last seven days you have read these devotions and realized you’ve been misguided about who God really is. Maybe you have believed misconceptions about the Christian life. Maybe you discovered your life revolves more around trying harder and legalistic rules than you assumed.
Have you considered that the Christian life is a narrow path? We can experience great stress by falling off the trail into a religious form of Christianity that isn’t really Christianity at all. In contrast, you can also be greatly damaged by falling off the other side of the path through seeking pleasure and satisfaction in worldly pursuits, rather than seeking God’s truth.
The narrow road of Christianity is neither religious legalism nor self-focused worldliness. The narrow way for a Christian is walking the path of grace. This path represents Jesus Christ himself, who wants to live in you and completely love you. Then he wants to live through you to live out Christianity each day in ways only he can accomplish to bless other people. Our response is simply to rely upon him for it all.
I wrote these devotions—and the book on which they are based—to offer people a new beginning in their relationship with God. But I’m not talking about promising God you will do better, try harder, be more committed, or rededicate yourself to him. It’s a new beginning where you leave all that stuff behind and abandon yourself completely to Jesus Christ as your only real hope for living life as God intended.
You will have both difficult times and joyful times as you walk through life. But as you walk in the truth, you will see the beauty of God and his amazing grace. Enjoy marveling at the incredible view of who God really is and the authentic Christianity he offers through Jesus Christ.
My desire is that you live free forever because now you know the New Covenant, which fully explains God’s best-kept secret. Though life always has its ups and downs, Christianity is easier than you ever could have imagined—since it’s all up to Jesus Christ to live his life through us!
What are some things you should say no to and some things you should say yes to in order to stay on the narrow path of grace today?
