X-cellent!

READY:
“Therefore strengthen your tired hands and weakened knees, and make straight paths for your feet…” – Hebrews 12:12-13
SET:
I’m stunned by the jaw dropping performances of the incredible Summer X Games athletes. The tricks and skills displayed are unbelievable. I personally may not care for the energy drinks, clothing choices and the constant beating their bodies take, yet I truly appreciate their efforts and excellent attitude in persevering!
I was specifically impressed by 34-year-old veteran and gold medalist Bob Burnquist. In 2011, during the Skateboard Big Air Event he said, “I’ll keep doing it until I make it.” Determined not to give up, Bob launched himself off a 79-foot ramp, speeding downward toward another ramp, doing a few mid-air tricks over a 70-foot gap, landing and then firing up a 27-foot high ramp to get “big air” before returning to earth with a vengeance. Each athlete gets five attempts. Bob wiped out a few times, but even skating with several pre-existing injuries, he did not give up!
I’m not sure about Bob, but another athlete, Mitchie Brusco, took over 100 practice runs the day before his event. The risks and the pounding of the body are enough to make any grown man say, “Once is good enough!” But these athletes know that to win the prize, you have to work hard and not give up!
Living for Jesus Christ may include some fearful moments as well as some painful experiences. But it’s worth it. As you choose to do the right things for God, don’t give up! Have an excellent attitude of persevering in your practices, your work and your faith.
GO:
- Would you be willing to risk bodily harm for Jesus?
- What is the greatest risk you have ever taken in your faith?
- Who will stand with you and encourage you to not give up?
WORKOUT:
Romans 12:10-12
Philippians 3:13-14
OVERTIME:
Heavenly Father, I need Your help. Sometimes living for You is tough and scary. Give me the attitude to be strong, courageous and to get back up!
