Week 4: Be a Man in Community
The Bible tells us – those closest to us will affect us, whether we believe it or not. Here’s how you can check the quality of those around you – Proverbs 17:17. Along with this check, would also be the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5. Some of the habits you’re looking to kick could very well be a result of those around you. Do yourself a favor – choose your friends wisely.
If you already have friends that are ‘Christians’ but occasionally bad influences, you may need to confront them – tell them if you’re going to continue to be friends ‘born for adversity,’ you need someone grounded in Christ. If they make the decision to pull away, you may need to distance yourself from them and find new friends. Wisdom is key in situations like this.
Practical Steps
- In choosing friends, be picky. No one will ever be perfect, but there are certain things you can’t budge on. Great friends can be one of God’s greatest blessings. A bad friend can be an anchor around your neck.
