Who Is Jesus?
Have you ever felt a little lost in all the different opinions and ideas about Jesus, wondering what to think?
Sometimes, you just need to pause and clear your mind. But when it comes to finding truth—especially about faith—where do you even begin? With so many conflicting views about Jesus, it’s easy to feel lost. Is Jesus worth considering? Is He truly “good”? Is He God? And does that even matter?
If you're reading this devotional, you're likely seeking real answers—and that’s a bold step worth celebrating. The goal of this plan isn’t to impose a perspective on you but to help you explore the Bible for yourself. Over the next five days, we’ll share stories about Jesus that are designed for you to read, reflect on, and discuss.
For the best experience, we recommend doing this Bible plan with a friend. Journeying together allows you to share insights, encourage each other, and discover more about Jesus along the way.
How to Get Started Together:
- Catch up weekly – Set a time each week to meet in person or hop on a call. Use this time to share and reflect on what you’ve read.
- Choose your style – You can either read the passages on your own and discuss them when you meet, or go through the plan together during your catch-up.
What to Do Each Time You Catch Up:
- Read – Take turns reading the passages together or on your own during the week.
- Retell – Summarize the story in your own words, focusing on the key details.
- Reflect – Share what stood out to you. What do these stories reveal about Jesus and the people involved?
- Relate – Discuss how these stories connect to your life or challenge your perceptions. Use the Reflection Questions to guide your conversation.
This simple rhythm makes it easy to stay connected, grow together, and dive deeper into what you’re learning.
Let’s start with two stories that reveal how Jesus interacted with people on the margins.
In Matthew 20, two blind men call out to Jesus as he was passing by, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Despite the crowd trying to silence them, they persist, their voices rising with desperate faith. Jesus, instead of ignoring them like the crowd expected, stops, turns to them, and shows deep compassion. He heals them, restoring their sight in a miraculous act of kindness. At the time, calling Jesus the “Son of David” wasn’t just a title—it was a bold declaration that Jesus was the long-awaited King, the one the prophets had promised would bring hope and healing. This declaration, made by the blind men, reveals their trust in Him. Meanwhile, the crowd’s attempt to silence them highlights how society often disregarded the marginalized, assuming that their suffering was a form of punishment for sin. But Jesus’ response shows a different truth—He sees and values everyone, especially those whom society overlooks or pushes aside.
In Mark 1, a man with leprosy—someone considered unclean, isolated, and shunned by society—approaches Jesus, asking to be made clean. At that time, lepers were forced to live in isolation, announce their uncleanliness to others, and were treated as outcasts. But Jesus doesn’t hesitate. He reaches out and touches the man, an act that defies both cultural and religious norms of the day. In doing so, Jesus would have become ceremonially unclean Himself, something completely unacceptable for a Rabbi in that context, where purity and separation from impurity were highly valued. However, instead of becoming defiled, Jesus' touch brings healing and restoration. Not only does He heal the man’s physical illness, but He also restores his dignity and his place in the community. Jesus’ willingness to touch the untouchable demonstrates His radical love and His desire to break through the barriers that divide us, showing that no one is beyond His care and compassion.
Through these stories, we begin to see Jesus not as a distant figure but as someone who actively seeks out the marginalized, values those society often ignores and offers healing and restoration in ways that challenge our understanding of worth and belonging.
