Fuel the Fire Pt 2

DAY 4 OF 4

When Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal, the original expectation of the contest was for the true God to pour out fire on the altar. However, Elijah was so confident in his God that when he finished building the altar, he had it and the surrounding areas drenched in water.

Elijah took a step of faith, trusting in God’s ability to outperform any expectations of him, to make it clear to all the people of Israel that Yahweh alone is the true and powerful God. And when the fire came down from heaven, it not only consumed the entire altar but also the water, showing how great and powerful the God we serve is.

Just as Elijah trusted God and stepped out in faith, we need to trust God and step out wherever He leads us. This often means having to walk into the unknown, but it is in the midst of uncertainty that we clearly see God’s power. Taking a step of faith can be intimidating, but our faith is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to push forward despite it. In an act of faith, we give God our fear and take that step to where He leads.

Ask yourself, where is God leading you to step out in faith? Sometimes, it might be having a difficult conversation, pursuing an opportunity, or challenging yourself to grow. Wherever God is leading you, remember that the fire falls when we place our trust in Him.

About this Plan

Fuel the Fire Pt 2

God has sparked a flame of spiritual gifts within all of us and now it’s our responsibility to stoke the fire. So how can we not only steward our fire, but see it grow through God’s power to make an impact in our community? This 4-day devotional looks at the example of the prophet Elijah, who trusted in God and saw the fire of heaven fall down, leading to the people of Israel being transformed.
