Breaking the Patterns That Break You

DAY 2 OF 5

Esther was an orphan who was raised by her uncle Mordecai before being chosen to be queen in the Persian capital of Susa. During her reign, it came to her uncle’s attention that another ruler planned to kill all the Jewish people. So Mordecai asked Esther to use her power as queen to approach the king and save the Jewish people. When he asked Esther, he added, “If you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Mordecai clearly pointed to the fact that God does not need us. We are blessed enough to be aids in carrying out his will, but if we do not find his present plans to be good enough, he will fulfill his good plans and purpose through someone else....

Esther showed herself faithful by fasting, approaching the king, and advocating for the marginalized people to be saved. Newly married with a newborn, I began to wonder what could have been had I shown myself faithful and grateful for God’s plan instead of fearful, seeking man’s love and unpromised potential. What could happen if we all lived as if we were made for such a time as this rather than for such a time that may or may not be?

I think the best we can do is start with today and embrace the present. This day matters just as much as the potential place we could someday be. Instead of looking for possibilities, we could open our eyes to the gifts, opportunities, and people we have right in front of us. God has a good plan for your life, and it isn’t next year or in five years. Your life doesn’t begin when you get the dream job or when you accomplish that goal or when you finally get married or have your next child. God’s good-enough plan is in today. When we embrace today as good enough—and live as if we were made for this time and not another—we finally become who we were meant to be.

Prayer

Lord, I am so thankful that you have a plan for my life. Please help me to trust you and to embrace what you have given me for today. Amen.
