Deliverance in the New Testament
Jesus went throughout all of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all sorts of diseases among the people. His fame went throughout all Syria. And they brought to Him all sick people who were taken with various diseases and tormented with pain, those who were possessed with demons, those who had seizures, and those who had paralysis, and He healed them. Great crowds followed Him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
—Matthew 4:23–25, mev
The deliverer has come to the earth. Through the New Testament we see God’s deliverance come to man not only physically—winning physical battles over physical enemies—but now we also see His deliverance in the spiritual realm.
From the Son of God Himself we learn how to gain victory, once and for all, over the enemy of our souls. Jesus shows us the spiritual weapons that are at our disposal. He shows us that He has the keys of the kingdom, which represent authority, and we learn that He has given those keys to us.
Through Christ not only do we have physical victory, but we also have victory over all the works of the enemy—and nothing shall by any means hurt us. In this half of the Bible, Christ also introduces us to the third member of the Godhead, the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who will teach us all the ways of the abundant life and how to walk in the peace, joy, and righteousness of the kingdom of God.
This is the age we live in, an age when Christ has come, has died, is risen, and is now at the right hand of the Father.
