You Were Made for More

DAY 12 OF 14

The Productive

Message

I love the eunuch’s sensibility. Let’s get this done now! Why wait?

Waiting on the Lord is good, I know, but wasting time isn’t.

The longer I live, the more I realize that time is the most precious commodity in my life. It’s the one resource I can’t create more of, and the one resource I cannot replace.

It seems that unicorns are obsessed with this reality. They have a penchant for getting things done, rather than talking about getting things done. They sound like the eunuch Phillip met and baptized. “Why wait? What’s preventing us from doing this right now?”

A recent study was done of individuals who made their own way in the world, starting with relatively no resources and growing their net worth to over eight figures. The study looked for commonalities among people who have been able to make their own way. The one common denominator found among all these self-made millionaires was their obsession with how they spend their time. Or as many of those in study said, how they invest their time.

Steps

How can you make sure you’re investing your time well? Here’s some of the oldest management consulting advice ever given, and still some of the best around.

Right now, make a list of six objectives you can accomplish today that will move you toward whatever goal you have set for yourself. The old advice goes on to say that six is an achievable number, not too short with wasted time, and not too long, which paralyzes us from getting anything done in the first place.

Years ago, a business mentor taught me this lesson, showing me 30 years of calendars that he had kept. Every day had a list of six objectives with check boxes beside them. And every day the check boxes were checked off.

Too many times in my own spiritual walk, I end up failing to take action quickly enough. There are very few times I can recall where God‘s advice is to put things off or to wait until tomorrow.

Prayer

Lord teach me to number my days. Help me to realize that today is the only time I have to spend. Help me accomplish a few tangible objectives today, so that I can see progress and continue to do greater things for you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

You Were Made for More

In this two-week plan inspired by entrepreneur and CEO, William Vanderbloemen's "Be The Unicorn,” we take a look at Jesus' message that we were "made for more." We will examine how Jesus and other Biblical characters embody each of the 12 "unicorn" traits and how you, too, can hone these habits. As you read and study, you will realize how Jesus has empowered you to become more than you ever imagined - you were made for more!
