A Season of Waiting

DAY 26 OF 28

Mission Accomplished

Exeter Cathedral in England has a famously long and high roof. Those who visit inside have to crane their necks to see the ornate beauty of that ceiling. Even then, it’s so far above them that the cathedral has made available to them mirrors on tables at ground level. The mirror perfectly reflects the ceiling, making possible what otherwise would be beyond their capacity.

Which is a bit like what happened when Jesus made His appearance in our world. Mere humans could not get any clear idea of what God was like. Jesus is God spelling Himself out in a language we human beings could understand. So if we want to get the clearest picture of what God Himself is like, read the Gospels.

But Jesus is more than a walking, talking revelation of God. He does God’s bidding. He was a one-man rescue mission, seeking to get wayward people back to who and where they’re meant to be. His crucifixion and resurrection made that possible.

And when He had done that, He sat down with His father… a phrase that indicates completion of a job; mission accomplished.

About this Plan

A Season of Waiting

“The original definition of advent was used to describe the preparation time to welcome the arrival of a person or event of significance. For Christians, it is a time to prepare to remember the birth of Jesus as our saving one (Messiah).” (What Is Advent? Kath Henry). As we approach Christmas & the New Year, read along with this plan and focus your hearts back on Him.
