Five Things to Look for in a Future HusbandSýnishorn
When thinking about the Godly character of a man, I like the image of a tall, sturdy oak tree like the one in Psalms chapter 1. His faith roots go deep, and he stands tall no matter what storm might come. This isn't about being perfect but about a genuine, deep commitment to living out God's plan for his life. Look for a man who consistently demonstrates integrity, even when it's inconvenient or costly.
Does he tell the truth, even when it's hard? Is he the same person in private as he is in public? Notice how he treats others, especially those who can't benefit him. A man of godly character will strive to be kind, patient, and self-controlled and to live out the fruits of the Spirit in his daily life.
Sometimes, I have seen women compromise here. Don’t. Don’t make excuses for him. Don’t act like it’s no big deal because it is. Marriage will not “fix” him. In reality, it will only give him a place to continue his unhealthy behavior.
One more thing. Don’t forget that character is built over time. Observe his responses to challenges and setbacks. These can reveal his true nature. A godly man will turn to God in both good times and bad, seeking God’s wisdom and strength. The blessing of godly character is worth looking for. It will not only benefit you but also generations to come, as Proverbs 20:7 says. As you see these qualities in a man, you can speak into him and let him know how much you appreciate these qualities.
Prayer:
Father, I pray for a man of Godly character. I pray he will put you first in all things. In Jesus name, Amen.
