The Power of the Cross
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
(1 Corinthians 1:18-25 NIV)
The message of the cross seems foolish to the world, but it is the power of God for those who believe.
The crucifixion was not only an event in history but the very act that secured our salvation.
On the cross, Jesus disarmed the powers of sin, death, and evil. This is the ultimate good news: through His death and resurrection, Jesus has already won the victory.
We often forget the power of the cross, allowing fear and shame to dominate. Yet, the Gospel reminds us that everything has been dealt with at the cross. Past, present and future. Dealt with.
You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.
(Colossians 2:13-15 NLT)
As we reach the end of our Good News devotional, may I encourage you to allow the power of the cross to change the way you live today – and every day! Live in the victory that Christ has already won for you.
Let’s pray together.
Lord,
Thank You for the power of the cross and Your victory over sin and death. Sometimes it is too much for my human mind to grasp but I accept and receive it, nonetheless. Help me live in the reality of the victory You have won, every day.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
