DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: Work as an Expression of Service to God

In the journey of every working woman, it’s easy to fall into the trap of seeing our jobs merely as a means to achieve material goals or career advancements. However, the Bible invites us to explore a deeper meaning, to live our work as a form of service to God.

Did you ever stop to think that God has you placed exactly where you are for a reason?

The story of Ruth provides an extraordinary example of how even the humblest jobs can have a lasting impact when performed with love and dedication.

Ruth, a young Moabite woman, faced the challenge of rebuilding her life after losing her family. With no resources and in a difficult social setting, she decided to work in the fields to provide for herself and her mother-in-law, Naomi. Her humility and work ethic led her to give her all with what she had, facing challenges without making excuses.

Today, many of us can identify with Ruth. We often find ourselves performing demanding tasks, perhaps without immediate gratification, but we can choose to approach them with a spirit of dedication. In Colossians 3:23-24, we read: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

When we decide to change our perspective and view our work as an opportunity to serve, then every task gains a new meaning—everything depends on the attitude of our hearts.

Imagine Ruth as she gathers the grain under the sun, sweat on her brow, yet confident that her work holds a greater meaning. What made the difference for Ruth was undoubtedly her unwavering faith in God. She had the certainty that God would not forget her or her struggles, and it is the same for us today.

In Jeremiah 29:11, we read: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” This promise reminds us that God has wonderful plans for our lives. God calls us to trust Him exactly where we are.

Reflection Question

  • How does my attitude at work reflect my faith and love for God?

Prayer

Lord, help me to recognize the deep meaning of the work I do every day. Grant me trust in You and reveal Your plan for my life so that I may glorify You in every action. Remind me that You have thoughts of peace for me and a future full of hope. Amen.
