ChangeMakers: Unsung Women of the Bible (Part 1)

DAY 6 OF 10

Tabitha

Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, is a compelling example of how a life marked by selfless service and deep compassion can become a living testament to God’s resurrection power.

In Acts 9:36-42, we read about Tabitha, this remarkable disciple, who was “always doing good and helping the poor.” While she didn’t hold a high position or title, her impact on the community was undeniable. Her faithful acts of kindness, especially toward widows and the vulnerable, made her beloved by many. When Tabitha fell ill and died unexpectedly, those she had served so faithfully could not bear to let her go. They sent for Peter, pleading on her behalf—a clear testament to how deeply her life had touched others.

God’s response was as powerful as Tabitha’s legacy of love. Through Peter, God raised Tabitha from the dead, showing His mighty power to restore life. Tabitha’s story wasn’t just one of service but of resurrection—God breathing new life where there had been death. Her life became a living witness to God's life-giving power, turning her story into one that gave hope to her community and continues to provide us with hope today.

Tabitha's story reminds us of the incredible power of a loving community that petitions God on our behalf when things seem dead or hopeless. When we feel like areas of our lives are stagnant, overlooked, or even dead, the prayers of those who care for us can invite God’s resurrection power into those very places. We are not meant to walk this journey alone—God uses others to lift us up and intercede on our behalf, just as He used Tabitha’s community to call her back to life.

The miracle of Tabitha’s resurrection is a powerful reminder of Christ’s unwavering faithfulness and His life-giving power. Just as He physically raised Tabitha from the dead, God continually breathes new life into the areas of our lives that feel dead, stagnant, or forgotten. No act of service goes unnoticed by Him. Like Tabitha, we can trust that God sees and values every quiet, faithful act of love and service. And when we feel depleted or discouraged, His resurrection power renews our strength, reviving our dreams, efforts, and callings with fresh life and purpose.

Prayer & Meditation

Are there people in your life praying for you, interceding on your behalf? Tabitha's story reminds us to cherish and lean on the community God has placed around us, knowing that their prayers can help restore life in areas where hope seems lost.

Is there an area in your life or ministry that feels overlooked or lifeless? Just as Peter said, "Tabitha, get up," imagine Jesus speaking those words into your heart today. As you meditate on the image of Tabitha rising again, consider where you need to rise again. Whether it's in your relationship with God, your calling, or your family, trust that God is calling you to stand up. He is bringing new life and renewal to every part of your journey. Embrace His resurrection power, and allow Him to breathe fresh purpose into your life.
