DAY 1 OF 3

Day 1: LISTEN

A cup of coffee is an excellent source to boost energy, sharpen focus, and enhance clarity, especially for those eager to tackle tasks. However, even coffee doesn’t suffice when we’re emotionally and physically fatigued. Life's troubles are part of the human experience. Jesus forewarned us that we would have trouble in this world, but we can take heart because in Him we find peace. John 16:33 NIV

During prayer, we often rush to present our requests, forgetting that listening is equally important. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes from hearing the Word of God. God knows when we are tired and desires to share His wisdom. No lengthy prayers are necessary—just a willing heart and an attentive ear.

A modern-day shepherd in Israel recently shared that shepherds typically do not make their sheep lie down through physical force or verbal commands. Instead, sheep lie down in green pastures when they feel safe and perceive no threat from predators. When we approach prayer, we often bring worries and anxieties, eager to list our concerns before the Lord. However, the principle illustrated by the shepherd reminds us that if we, like the sheep, trust God wholeheartedly and have no fear of life's dangers, we, too, can find rest and experience peace. Sheep rest because they trust their reliable shepherd, who provides guidance and protection. They listen for the shepherd’s warning and follow his lead if danger arises.

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.” Psalm 23:2 KJV.

Consider Martha and Mary, who hosted Jesus. While Martha was busy, Mary chose to listen at Jesus' feet. When Martha expressed her irritation, she asked Jesus to tell Mary to help. Jesus gently replied that Mary’s choice to listen was more valuable.

Remember, it’s okay to be tired and take time to rest. Living life well requires care for the soul. The Good Shepherd knows your needs and will guide you when you listen.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 KJV

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being the Good Shepherd. You are faithful and have promised to care for me. Sheep are wired to listen for the voice of their Shepherd, and they find comfort in His guidance. I want to travel this life well, so teach me to listen for Your voice and be still when necessary. In times of distress, settle my heart, and give me courage as I wait in Your presence. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
