Know Your RoleSýnishorn
We were never meant to follow Christ alone. One of the gifts we receive from Jesus is a community of other believers, often called the church. Many of us might think of the church as a building we go to, but in reality, the church is the people. We are the church.
In the Bible, the church is described as Jesus’ body, with Jesus Himself being the head of the church. Jesus leads many times through invitation, Christ invites all people to come and follow Him and receive the gift of salvation. Because of this, the church is filled with many different types of people, all of whom Jesus loves deeply.
While we all follow and serve Jesus, we also are given new roles in order to serve others. 1 Corinthians 12:11 tells us that the Holy Spirit gives us different gifts to use for the benefit of the church. Although these gifts and callings are not all the same, all of them are necessary for the health and growth of the church. Following and serving Jesus is still our primary role, but these God-given gifts are the practice of our servanthood.
In the body of Christ, every gift and role is valuable and necessary. Whichever gift(s) the Holy Spirit has given you, it is imperative to live them out. As believers, we need to continue to build each other up in Christ. Following Christ is not always easy, which is why it is important to have other believers help each other and inspire one another to continue on. When you are struggling in your walk with Christ, don’t be afraid to talk about it with the community He gave you so that they can support you.
