Trusting God's Plan When You Don't See Him: Lessons From the Book of EstherSýnishorn
“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther: 4:14)
This famous quote from the book of Esther comes right at the pivotal moment in her story. If you were watching a movie, the camera would focus closely on Esther’s worried face as she ponders, risking her life to save her people or remaining silent and doing nothing. She is at a crossroads, but the decisions she makes will propel her into the purpose and calling God has for her.
Take a minute and think about your own future. I’m not talking about tomorrow, but next year or several years down the road. What emotion does that stir up in you to think about what’s ahead? Is it fear? Excitement? Bewilderment? Trepidation? Are you looking forward to something that just hasn’t happened yet? Or are you facing a scary, uncertain situation like a medical diagnosis, wondering how it will all turn out? We all have a big question mark in front of what lies ahead of us, but how each of us walks into our destiny can make all the difference. We have the opportunity to trust the One who knows our every twist and turn and has a plan for us. A good plan for us — a plan to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
I’m so excited that you are joining us in this amazingly colorful, intriguing, and entertaining story of a young Jewish girl named Hadassah, whose Hebrew name was changed to the Persian name Esther to hide her identity as a Jew. As we read her story, you’ll get caught up in her whirlwind change of events. She started as an unknown Hebrew orphan, to the queen of a mighty ancient empire, and finally fulfilled her true purpose as the one who saves her Jewish people from annihilation.
The title of this Bible plan, “Trusting God’s Plan When You Don’t See Him,” has meaning. In fact, God’s name is not mentioned once in this book. But as you study with us, you’ll see the evidence of Him working all the details out for Esther and His chosen people, the Jews.
Each day, you’ll find practical takeaways that you can apply when facing your unknown future. So get ready for an exhilarating ride into the ancient past of the Persian empire.
