Homecoming (S3-E1)

DAY 2 OF 4

Don’t be afraid. Okay… but how?

Do not be afraid.
Do not worry.
Do not be anxious.

Those are beautiful words — but incredibly hard to live. It’s easy to say “don’t be afraid” until you look around and see conflict, loneliness, pain, uncertainty, and your own limitations staring back at you. How are we supposed to simply switch fear off?

In this episode of The Chosen, John speaks from a prison cell. His situation is anything but safe, and the legal system certainly isn’t on his side. Yet he remembers Jesus’ words from Luke 4 about bringing freedom to prisoners. John’s chains are real. His circumstances don’t shrink — but his perspective isn’t centered around fear. It’s centered around faith that Jesus’ plans will prevail, come what may.

Fear grows when we look only at what we can handle. Peace grows when we look at what Jesus can handle.

None of this minimizes real pain, real threats, or real uncertainty. John’s story didn’t end the way anyone hoped. Faith is not pretending things are easy. But Scripture invites us to anchor our hearts differently.

Philippians 4 shows us how: by bringing everything to God in prayer.

We bring Him our needs and fears; our desires and confusion; our gratitude and questions – not as a last resort, but as our first response. And then, the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. It’s a peace we can’t always explain; a peace which is not the absence of evil, but rather the presence of Jesus.

Reflection Questions

  • What situations cause you to be afraid?
  • What do you do when you feel afraid?
  • How could prayer become your first response instead of your last?
  • Where do you long to experience Jesus’ peace today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you know everything I am worried about. Today, I place it all before You. Here it is … Give me Your peace in place of my fear. Teach me to turn to You first and to rest in Your presence. Amen.
