Busy Resting

DAY 7 OF 7

Rest Your Routine

Over the past few days, we looked at ways to build a rest day into our week as the Lord intended. And you will probably agree that most of it comes down to doing things a bit differently than normal. And different from everybody around you.

That is what Romans 12 is all about. To change and transform our lives in such a way that all of it becomes holy and different. “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2, NLT)

Instead of complaining to your friends about how tired your life is making you, you can look forward to your day of rest. Instead of trying to escape the exhaustion from all kinds of unhealthy habits, rest intentionally in a way that will leave you refreshed. Instead of pushing yourself and your family to a breaking point, take a break like God tells you to do.

And who knows? By learning good ways to rest, you may just find yourself singing with David. “My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:6)

Do you believe that you can build a lifestyle of rest in the Lord? How do you think the rest of your life would change if you felt well-rested for one day each week?

Let us transform our lives to the will of God. And let us look for his loving intention behind his command to us to rest. “So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: ‘Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts’.” (Hebrews 4:6-7)
