Sealed Women: I Am

DAY 6 OF 7

DAY 6: Everything can Become New in Him

"But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his trickery, your minds will be led astray from sincere and pure devotion to Christ." (2 Corinthians 11:3)

The same crafty serpent that deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden can play with our minds. The devil may not control our circumstances, but he can be in our heads, coiling around our thoughts and emotions.

Just as Satan fell from heaven, he wanted Eve to have the desire to be independent of God, self-sufficient, and to be her own God. Before Adam and Eve had corrupted thoughts, they were so close to God that there was no room for fear. But when they ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, they were afraid.

“The root of fear is the desire to be self-sufficient and independent of God. When Adam was in right relationship with God, he was secure. But when that intimacy was lost, fear replaced security.” - Tony Evans.

We too have become so accustomed to doing things by ourselves that, even though we know that Jesus said we can do nothing without Him (John 15:5), we still choose to self-sufficient. So, our thoughts become filled with fear, and our emotions and identity become confused.

When a thought comes to us that makes us want to compare ourselves to someone else, it is a temptation sent by Satan. It does not come from the Holy Spirit. The devil did this to the first Adam and Eve when he tempted them to compare their identities to God, and he did it again to the second Adam, Jesus, tempting Him to stray from the purpose and mission of His identity as the Son of God.

Parents produce children who bear their image. Whenever a lie is conceived and born, Satan is behind the process.

The enemy throws thoughts into our minds until his thoughts become our thoughts. Once Satan has made us think his thoughts, he wants our emotions and feelings to affirm that those thoughts are correct. So when we begin to believe Satan’s thoughts, we are believing lies, because Jesus said there is no truth in the devil.

Can you imagine what Satan thinks of you, the creature God has chosen to love and forgive?

Our thoughts do not simply remain on the intellectual level because we are emotional beings. We begin to feel what we think.

“One of the greatest revelations of my life is that I can choose my thoughts and think things on purpose. In other words, I don’t just have to think about what comes into my mind. The way we think determines how we live and who we are. That’s why we need to think about what we’re thinking.” — Joyce Meyer.

Along with our minds and emotions come our hands and feet—our actions.

Invisible spiritual darts are thrown at our heads frequently. If our actions begin to match the darts thrown at us, Satan knows he’s succeeded in controlling our thoughts.

But those who are sealed with the Holy Spirit are given the ability to discern spiritual things and can resist the thoughts sent by the devil, not with feelings, but with thoughts that Jesus thinks. Through the power of God’s written Word, we can have the mind of Christ. Being in Jesus begins with what we think.

You have been adopted into God’s family. You no longer have to think like an orphan. Everything can become new and different if you begin to think like Jesus.

About this Plan

Sealed Women: I Am

God is famous for interrupting people’s brokenness and speaking a new identity into them. Identity is at the heart of what it means to be human. Today, people think they are free to choose their identity, which leads them to put on masks and personas. But the Good News of Christ says that you, in God’s love, can discover what God says about you. You are who the “I Am” says you are. And only in the identity your Creator has given you, will you live a life of peace, security, and freedom.
